The trend for artistic cake design has grown a lot recently in Italy. In November 2011, the site cake mania was born, dedicating itself entirely to the craft. And it hasn’t found itself short of fans; its contributors have sent in photos of cakes that cover everything from Lady Gaga and Sushi, to a cake based on Salvador Dalì’s The Persistence of Memory writes that cake design “is an art form that is accessible to everyone, uniting every Italian’s love for food with the refined English aesthetic.”

In other words, cakes that look incredible, and taste amazing. We hardly need an excuse to eat cake. Now we’ve got two.
